Features of democracy
- In a democracy, rulers are elected by the people. As rulers, they are representatives of the people and are authorized to take decisions on behalf of the people democracy.

Demerits of democracy
Unstable government:

It is slow in its functioning. The decision-making process involves long debate and deliberations in the Parliament. This takes a lot of time before the decisions are actually taken.
Socio-economic and political problems:
Once a decision, is made, there come money socio-economic and political problems in its way during implementation. It destroys the very essence of a decision and renders democracy less efficient.
Role of money in a democracy:
Money plays an important role at the time of the elections. A lot of money is needed to organise demonstrations, public meetings and speeches. It has become an accepted fact that many candidates use money to win elections. This lowers the spirit of democracy.

Accountable Government
Democracy is an accountable government which is answerable to the people or to the Parliament In democracy people elect their representatives who form government and if they don't work according to the wishes of the people, the people have the right to change them .

Responsive government is government which responds positively to the needs and aspirations of the people. The government takes decisions, form policies which are acceptable to the people Under this whenever possible and necessary, citizens can participate in decision making .

Democracy is a legitimate government as it is elected by people themselves through elections at regular intervals.
For example, in India the government has provided citizens the Right to Information act .
